Halloween is this month, and Animal Crossing is here for it. You might have already found a painting of a new character with a pumpkin on his head in your mailbox. Running on for the entirety of October, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is certainly celebrating the first Halloween of the game right. From October 1st to October 31st, the event has a new NPC named Jack, decorations, costumes and special emotes. Read on to find out what exactly you’ll be experiencing with the update.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween Update: Candy
Nook’s Cranny will be offering one staple of any Halloween- candy. You can only buy one piece of candy a day with three options:
- Eat it yourself
- Give it to the villagers
- Store it
I’d recommend the third because there’s something special that might happen on the evening of 31st October and it involves a lot of candy and a certain pumpkin-headed character.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween Update: NPC
The supposed Czar of Halloween, Jack has one goal this entire month. It’s getting candy. He’ll offer you Halloween-themed furniture in exchange for candy. Doesn’t sound like something you want? Too bad, you better give in to the pumpkin-headed character’s demands or else you’ll get tricked.
Jack actually is a recurring character in many of the Animal Crossing games, so
Some of his tricks include:
- Making you wear a pumpkin helmet and taking your hat
- Replacing your clothes with moldy replacements
- Turning your offer into a Jack-in-the-box
It’s clear you shouldn’t be wearing your snazzy, expensive clothing around him. Don’t let him take it away!
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween Update: Clothing
More than 15 new items are available for you to wear. Actually, it’s even more if you consider the fact that each clothing item has six different colors to choose from!
Here are the items you can choose from:
- Flashy Animal Costume
- Mage's Dress
- Magic-Academy Robe
- Raggedy Outfit
- Flashy Pointy-Ear Animal Hat
- Impish Horns
- Mage's Striped Hat
- Animal Nose
- Horizontal-Striped Tights
- Flashy Animal Boots
- Mage's Boots
- Impish Wings
- Jack's Face
- Jack’s Robe
Jack’s Robe and Jack’s Face both are the only free items available-on October 31st only. They also don’t have any variations. The items range from 500 to 2000, with the highest being 2040 and lowest being priced at 560.
Apart from this, there’s face paint and eye colors to buy for 2400 Nook Miles.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween Update: Nook’s Cranny
Nook’s Cranny has once again changed its décor! Pumpkins appear on the outside, while the inside has Halloween-themed items.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween Update: Emotes
Two new reactions have arrived this Halloween, following the spooky theme set in place. They are called Scare (imagine the face you make when Jack yells “Boo!”) and Haunt.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween Update: Pumpkin Patch
You can now grow and harvest pumpkins now! They’re used in crafting in some recipes and you can use them in your Spooky Lanterns!
Leif offers discounts on Pumpkin Starts, but Nook’s Cranny also offers them. They grow in 4 days, and you can maximize your harvest by watering them.
- If you water every day, you can get 3 from one plant.
- Watering once gives you 2.
- Not watering them at all gives you 1.
Another thing to note is that your plant will continue making pumpkins after you harvest! There’s no need for seeds.
Each pumpkin you obtain comes in 4 colors:
Green pumpkins are quite rare, and orange ones are very common. There is a reason color matters: DIY recipes actually need different colored pumpkins. There’s no way to get certain colored pumpkins though, so the best solution is to keep harvesting, growing and watering your plants.
However, once you’ve found a harvested pumpkin of the color of your choice, you can keep getting more. Plant one with a shovel to keep getting the color you want.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween Update: Furniture
Nook’s Cranny offers new furniture, part of Spooky Sets. You can also craft these using DIY Crafting Recipes. Additionally, there are some exclusive items that you will receive on October 31st only.
There are more than 15 items available, here’s a list:
- Spooky Arch
- Spooky Candy Set
- Spooky Chair
- Spooky Fence (recipe only)
- Spooky Lantern
- Spooky Lantern Set
- Spooky Scarecrow
- Spooky Standing Lamp
- Spooky Table
- Spooky Tower
Most of these can be bought in Nook’s Cranny or crafted, however some are recipe-only (like the Spooky Fence). Here are the items exclusive to the night of the 31st.
- Spooky Flooring
- Spooky Garland
- Spooky Rug
- Spooky Table Setting
- Spooky Wall
- Spooky Carriage
- Spooky Wand
The last two actually are only redeemable once you’ve unlocked the other five. You also obtain lollipops randomly from villagers. Using them, you can redeem the last two from Jack by trading.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Halloween Update: Event
Called the Halloween Spooktacular, the 31st of October will close the month of Halloween themed surprises with an interactive event. Your villagers will be demanding candy in their costumes from 5 pm to 12 am. And Jack might even pay you a visit!
That's all there is to this update. I can't wait for the next one!
